At the annual convention of the New York State Dietetic Association, Dr. Ruth Wheeler '99, director of the Vassar Institute of Euthenics, reported the results of an experiment by a group of 28 students that demonstrated it was possible to arrange a well-balanced diet without rigorous scientific controls.

Dr. Wheeler said that the students were able to maintain weight and good health, at a cost of 43 cents a day for meals that they planned, bought and prepared for themselves.  “There were moderate quantities of meat, milk and vegetables in the menus and plain desserts, and less of candy and spinach.”    The New York Times
