“Tomorrow is the college straw vote with a machine from Po’keepsie and everything.  Feeling runs high amid a surfeit of sun-flowers.  Miss [Cornelia] Raymond stopped wearing hers when told they were made in a sweatshop but I guess she’ll vote for Landon just the same.”      MS letter

In the campus poll taken on October 20,  60 percent of the 916 students casting ballots—along, apparently with Cornelia Raymond '83, the daughter of the late President John H. Raymond—voted for the Republican Governor Alf Landon from the sunflower state, and 54 percent of the 109 faculty members who voted supported the incumbent Democrat, Franklin D. Roosevelt.     The Miscellany News
