The faculty approved the creation of a multidisciplinary program in East Asian Studies.  Originally formulated by former Associate Professor of History Johanna Meskill and Professor Emeritus of Religion Paul Pfuetze and placed before the faculty in January 1971, the program drew on the departments of Chinese, anthropology, geography, history, political sciene, religion, economics, drama and art.  Prospective majors were encouraged to study either Chinese or Japanese.     The Miscellany News
