1875, June 23 Among the 1,000 people packed into the "intensely hot" Chapel for Vassar's 9th Commencement were the hero of the Battle of Fort Fisher (1865), General Alfred Terry, and Elisha Pease, the civilian governor of Texas at the outset of Reconstruction.
